Sustainability and CSR initiatives form an integral part of Ambuja Cement’s business practices. While the management is strategically deploying its resources in an effort to outdo not just its own but other top companies’ performance, thereby embracing sustainable business growth rather than profitability, the results of these endeavours have been honoured by Indian as well as Global recognitions. Now, the Company has added yet another feather in its Sustainability cap.

The Company has ranked No. 2 – seven notches up as compared to last year – in the comprehensive annual report ‘Responsible Business Rankings 2018 – India’s Top Companies for Sustainability and CSR 2018’ by the reputed Futurescape, a sustainability advisor, and Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Udaipur; and a leading business newspaper Economic Times. Moreover, it is the only cement company in the top ten entities – others represent automobiles, information technology, oil & gas and power etc.

Delighted over this recognition, Ambuja Cement MD&CEO Ajay Kapur said, “We are truly honoured by this recognition as it is yet another step drawing us closer to achieving our Vision as the most sustainable and competitive company in the industry. The recognition further strengthens our commitment to perform even better in our ongoing sustainability journey.”

“In line with both – Ambuja Cement and the Group’s 2030 SDG targets — it is our continuous endeavour to achieve a higher level of economic productivity through diversification, technological upgradation and innovation, with a focus on value-added products and services and sustainable human capital deployment.” Mr. Kapur added.

The ranking is based on a weighted average of these four criteria – Sustainability (35% weight), Stakeholders (30%), Governance (20%) and Disclosure (15%). Study data consisted of 218 companies – 171 private companies and 47 public sector companies. Of the total, 135 companies came from the manufacturing sector and 83 from the service sector. The analytical examination of sustainability reports, annual reports and business responsibility reports covers industries as diverse as automobiles, banks, FMCG, infrastructure, information technology, metals and mining, oil, power, steel, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and others.

Incorporating the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into our business actions has earned significant score from the report. The report says, Ambuja Cement mapped three SDGs – water actions to SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities) and SDG 12 (Responsible consumption and production). Amongst others, select 10 companies will be showcased on sustainability in a booklet to be launched globally on the 11th December, 2018. This publication will also be used as an educational literature in the text of IIMs.
