Ambuja Cement’s holistic efforts to redefine sustainable business practices continue to make great strides and added several feathers to its cap in 2018. While leading the way in facilitating innovative practices in the industry, the company has set newer benchmarks, competing not just with Indian entities but also foreign ones; and earned several recognitions from various prestigious bodies.
Ambuja moved up two spots to be ranked 5th in the Construction Material category adjudged by the prestigious Global Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) 2018 – a global recognition that promotes sustainable business practices. Also, ranked 2nd in the global Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) – the report which outlined the companies that are best prepared for the low-carbon transition. Ambuja’s story on ‘Contract Labour Management System’ was among the top 10 cases at the prestigious ISB-Ivey Global Case Competition. Moreover, the company's ‘True Value’ case study continues to be part of the curriculum of the prestigious Harvard Business School !
Closer home, the company has improved its Water Positive status to 6 times; which means it gives back to society six times the water it consumes. Ambuja shone bright with the highest number of wins (eight) at the CII-ITC Sustainability Awards 2018 in recognition of visionary approach in the areas of sustainable development, social inclusiveness and inspiring responsible business practices. For the past nine years, the company has been winning recognitions at this prestigious award. The firm also bagged the Best Compliance In-house Legal team award; and the ISO 9001:2015 certification by the Internal Audit team. Ambuja also featured in the Pitch Top 50 Brands 2018 – a list of India’s top brands. It has successfully moved seven notches up to 2nd rank in an industry research report – ‘India’s top companies for Sustainability and CSR 2018’, released by IIM Udaipur, Futurescape and Economic Times. It is the only cement entity that is being honoured with this recognition for its noteworthy contribution in the Sustainability and CSR segment, amongst 100 Indian companies ranging from manufacturing and service industries like automobiles, banks, FMCG, infrastructure, information technology, steel, pharmaceuticals and others. This entity has also won the prestigious ‘Best CSR & Sustainability Practices Award 2017’ presented by the renowned Asia Centre for Corporate Governance & Sustainability.
