Waste Management & Circular Economy
Our waste management strategy is anchored in source segregation, classification, storage, recycling and reuse. We have a target for zero hazardous waste to landfill, in complete compliance with regulations. We comply with all applicable environmental regulations, including: The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986; Hazardous and Other Wastes Rules, 2016; Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016; E-Waste Rules, 2016; Biomedical Waste Rules, 2016; Construction and Demolition Waste Rules, 2016.
Key Intiatives
Supplementary cementitious materials (SCM), including fly ash, slag, calcined clay, and waste gypsum, are incorporated into cement or concrete mixtures. This partially replaces mined materials in the manufacture of Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) and Portland Slag Cement (PSC), reducing environmental impact.
Co-processing of municipal, industrial, and agro wastes in cement kilns helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels by utilizing these materials as alternative fuels.
Industrial Symbiosis is promoted by collaborating with other industries to close material loops and minimize environmental disposal, fostering resource efficiency and sustainability.
Plastic packaging bags are managed according to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Rules. Most bags are co-processed in cement kilns, with a smaller portion sent to registered recyclers for proper disposal.
Biomedical waste is incinerated at authorized Common Biomedical Waste Treatment Facilities, ensuring safe and compliant treatment.
E-waste is recycled through authorized recyclers, supporting responsible disposal and resource recovery.
Scrap materials are sold to authorized vendors for recycling, promoting circularity within the industry.
Mining overburden is repurposed for backfilling within mines, mitigating environmental disturbance and supporting land reclamation.
