CARBON SMART... OUR ASPIRATION
EC2
Being in the business of cement manufacturing, climate change
mitigation and footprint conscious growth has always been integral to our Sustainability strategy. Being Carbon Smart is our aspiration.

Company’s focus among others is on low carbon growth, use of alternative fuel, renewable energy, bio-mass etc. Continuing our participation in the Global Programme of Clean
Development Mechanism (CDM) we are currently pursuing two CDM
projects on Smokeless Chulha in Community around our plants & Waste Heat Recovery.

We continue to focus on developing our renewable energy portfolio in line with Renewable & Clean Energy
Roadmap till 2020. We have installed and commissioned 330 KW of Solar energy at Bhatapara, Chhattisgarh this year, in addition to the existing 7.5 MW of Wind energy at Kutch,
Gujarat commissioned in 2011, a 6.5 MW waste heat recovery based power generation system is being installed which is expected to be operational by 2013. We are currently monitoring and reporting CO2 emissions as per the WBCSD Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) protocol.

We have meticulously estimated our carbon footprint that included our all operations, bulk cement terminals, shipping activity, offices as well as offsets due to our plantation initiatives for the year 2010. This was verified independently by a third party in accordance to the international standard ISO 14064:2006. Furthermore, we have drawn out a Roadmap to embark upon a low carbon
growth path for the future.

India Cement Technology
Roadmap-WBCSD CSI

ACL is fully committed for partnering global efforts to reduce Green House
Gases emissions and mitigating the impacts of
climate change. A testimony of this is the clean technology roadmap under the aegis of CSI of WBCSD in which Ambuja cement participated very actively. This provides technological option for improvement under five levers that can contribute to emission reduction:
1. Alternative fuel and raw materials (AFR)
2. Thermal and electrical energy efficiency
3. Clinker substitution
4. Waste heat recovery (WHR) and
5. Newer technologies The Low Carbon Technology Roadmap report has been released in December.

Carbon Disclosure Project, CII and WWF
Ambuja has been participating in the CDP project since 2008 & voluntarily disclosing its carbon performance to its stakeholders. CDP Report 2012 – India 200 was released on January 21, 2012. This is the sixth year of this initiative in India.
