chief executive officer’s message
It was a year of continued economic turbulence that
once again proved that
placing sustainable development at the core
of our business decisions
is the right approach.
This is our sixth consecutive annual sustainability report and I am delighted to note that we have made significant progress in a number of important areas encompassing Sustainability.
We have always striven to be admired, sustainable and competitive from which we draw our license to operate.
This year we revisited our vision statement to replace ‘admired’ with ‘sustainable’. In the process, we reposition ourselves as “to
be the most sustainable and competitive company in our industry”. It’s reiterating our increased focus on “Sustainability”
with an objective of integrating our sustainability goals with our core business objectives. We committed ourselves for
a number of concrete actions to improve our performance on both social and environmental bottom lines.

It was a year of continued economic turbulence that once again proved that placing sustainable development at the core of our business decisions is the right approach.
This means putting Safety, Environment and Communities at the centre stage of our business. Let me start with our OH&S journey – the events of 2012 fill me with mixed feelings of both, pride at our achievements
and concern to focus on areas for improvement.

Two of our integrated plants at Rabriyawas and Maratha - received National Safety Awards, in recognition of their safety performance.

Still, we will continue to work further to strengthen ourselves in the implementation of both, Fatality Prevention Elements and Contractor Safety Management.
